Kriyas means the purificatory
processes.Kriyas are the cleansing practices. For that matter bathing, brushing
the teeth, washing face are all kriyas. But this Yogic Kriyas means some
special techniques which are meant to clean the inner organs of the
body.
Although asanas are also a
part of Yoga, but major part of Yoga is mental achievement. In Yoga controlling
the body starts with cleansing processes known as kriyas. It is the first
step to eliminate poisonous substances accumulated in our body.
Among the several kriyas availabe,
six kriyas are considered to be major Kriyas. They are,

Trataka for
eyesight
-
Neti
for upper nasal tract
-
Kapalbhati for lower respiratory
part ie., from nostrils to lungs
-
Dhauti for cleaning
stomach
-
Nauli for abdominal muscles
-
Basti for lower
intestines
